We recently revamped the science laboratory at Woodham Academy in Newton Aycliffe. The renovation is part of an ongoing £100,000 investment programme to improve the school’s science facilities and help enhance student learning.

The initial phase of the project involved stripping out old benching and replacing it with bespoke units and Modern Trespa topped work stations. From start to finish the renovation of the first classroom took just two weeks to complete and has transformed the classroom into a state-of-the-art science laboratory.

David Coates, Business Manager for Woodham Academy, comments:

“At Woodham Academy we strive to provide the best possible learning environment for our students and Claughtons has certainly helped us to achieve our goal with the new science laboratory. From start to finish, they have taken the time to really understand our requirements and we have been extremely impressed with the team’s attention to detail.

“Claughtons worked directly with our department heads on the project and even suggested things we hadn’t thought of, making sure we knew what the laboratory would look like before work even started. We wanted to achieve a modern, lecture theatre style rather than a traditional classroom style and we are thrilled with the end result. The students really enjoy using the facility and we can’t wait to revamp the rest of our science classrooms over the summer.”

Nigel Green, Business Development Manager for East Yorkshire-based Claughtons, comments:

“We really enjoyed working on this project, as we had the opportunity to work closely with the teachers to create something that was tailored to their specific needs. The school asked us to handle the project from start to finish, and we completed the project in just two weeks. We are pleased to have been able to help Woodham Academy in their aim to improve the learning environment for its students. We look forward to the opportunity of working with them again in the future.”

Woodham Academy was opened in 2012 and was known formerly as the Woodham Community Technology College. The school has a strong technology heritage and also has a sports academy that offers specialist coaching to students in a range of sports.
