We’ve recently given the ICT suites at Farringdon Community Academy in Sunderland a makeover to bring them up to date.

The two ICT suites feature bespoke furniture, designed and manufactured by Claughtons, with a modern, office-style layout. The new layout was created to provide a more adult way of working, which is proving a hit with students, as Head Teacher, Howard Kemp, explains:

“We are delighted with the end result of the ICT suite refurbishment. The computer suites have made a massive difference to our school and have helped to transform our students’ learning. Prior to starting the project, the ICT suites were unloved and scruffy. The computers were all placed facing the wall and the rooms weren’t a great place to study in.

“When we decided to invest in the refurbishment, we knew that we wanted to create an office-style environment. That way our students could experience a different way of working instead of a traditional classroom set-up. The configuration that Claughtons came up with was the most interesting by far compared to other designs we received. The desks are set up in pods of 6 in a hexagonal design so the students face each other whilst working.

“The ICT suites look great and are being made good use of now. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Claughtons for their hard work and attention to detail throughout the project. Despite being based 80 miles away, the standard of customer service has been exceptional, particularly the after care.”

Nigel Green, Business Development Manager for Claughtons, comments: “The ICT suites have now been brought up to standard and are fully functioning. We designed the furniture to suit the space from scratch and manufactured it in our factory in Melton, so it’s safe to say that Farringdon Community Academy’s ICT suites are unique! It’s great to see the students enjoying the facilities. We’re really pleased with the project and hope to work with the school again in the future.”

Farringdon Community Academy converted to academy status in July 2013 and caters for over 800 secondary school students. The school is based in Farringdon, Sunderland and was built in 1956.
